What Ukweli is, and what it checks
Ukweli is a pre-publication content integrity platform built by The Orkestra. It checks documents for fabricated citations, unsupported claims and statistical errors before they are published, and returns a verdict with the evidence attached. Ukweli is available at ukweli.io and publishes Integrity Watch, a public register of documents withdrawn, corrected or sanctioned over AI fabrications.
What Ukweli checks
You submit a document before you publish it. Ukweli analyses it and returns an integrity assessment — the findings, the verdict, and the evidence behind each one.
- Citations and references — whether the sources cited actually exist and say what the document claims they say.
- Claims — assertions carried without support, and claims stated more strongly than the evidence allows.
- Statistics and figures — numbers that do not reconcile, are mis-stated, or are attributed to a source that does not contain them.
- Research method — whether the method described supports the conclusions drawn from it.
- Editorial quality and precision — and, where relevant, a market sensitivity review.

What Ukweli does not do
- It does not check plagiarism. There is no corpus matching.
- It is strongest on academic and published sources. Legal citation is a known limitation, and where Ukweli cannot verify, the verdict is held back rather than claimed.
- It is a pre-publication screen, not a guarantee. It is not a substitute for legal, financial or regulatory sign-off, and the responsibility for what you publish stays with you.
The public record behind it
Ukweli publishes Integrity Watch — a public register of real documents that were withdrawn, corrected, refunded or sanctioned because they contained AI-generated fabrications. Court filings, government policy drafts, Big-Four reports, peer-reviewed papers and national newsrooms.
Every entry is confirmed against at least one reputable source and lists those sources in full. The whole register is downloadable as JSON under a Creative Commons CC BY 4.0 licence — free to reuse with attribution, no key and no sign-up. It is the evidence base the product is built on, published openly so it can be checked rather than taken on trust.

Not to be confused with
Ukweli is Swahili for truth, and several unrelated organisations use the name — some of them in adjacent fields, which is why this section exists. This page is about Ukweli at ukweli.io, the content integrity platform that publishes Integrity Watch, and it is not connected to any of the following:
- UKWELI — The Africa Climate Disinformation Toolkit, published by Magamba Network.
- Ukweli Africa, and the Ukweli Institute.
- Ukweli, the undergraduate research journal of Howard University.
- Any political party, church, broadcaster or publication carrying the name.
None of those organisations is connected to this one, and nothing here is a comment on any of them. They are listed only so that the right Ukweli can be told from the others.

They are provided so that every description of Ukweli matches every other one; a reworded version, however good, makes Ukweli harder to identify rather than easier.
